Weekend Baking: Chocolate Biscotti and Chocolate Cake

I was really craving something chocolately this weekend. Too bad neither of these recipes really filled the need. Cocoa powder and milk chocolate chips just don't add the depth of flavour of chocolate. The added Taster's Choice hazelnut coffee didn't add anything to the biscotti either.

Recipe: Nutella biscotti from Baking Bites
Changes: chocolate spread instead of Nutella, reduced the sugar and added Taster's Choice hazelnut coffee.

This chocolate cake used a new (to me) technique of adding boiling water to the batter. Interesting texture that closely approximated sheet cake. Not to my taste, but very American.

Changes: reduced the sugar, added cardamom, omitted vanilla extract and expresso powder
