TNT #1: Dried Tart Montmorency Cherries

One of my New Year resolutions is to make my own biscuits, cakes and muffins instead of buying mass-produced baked goods. Exceptions to be made for Tim Tams and items from an actual bakery naturally!

My discovery of the joys of freezing doughs for later baking is definitely going to help in this regard. This New Year's break has been a perfect time to bake off previously frozen dough and make more doughs for freezing. Another bonus was the opportunity to get a head start on my 2010 TNT (Trying New Things) list by using all the interesting ingredients I've picked up recently.

I love Trader Joe's dried fruit selection and was intrigued by their Dried Pitted Tart Montmorency Cherries. Eaten from the bag they are pleasantly sour. Baked into this recipe, they are less so. These crisps are very buttery and look very pretty, though the dark chocolate doesn't really seem to work with the other ingredients. More pistachios or cherries to cut the richness of the dough would be good. The dough freezes very well and allows for cutting into very thin slices, making this the perfect light snack.

Recipe: Pistachio White Chocolate Cherry Crisps from Chow
Changes: Substituted dark chocolate for white
